New Haven is a group project.
Community is being built through all sorts of projects in New Haven: dance parties and craft nights, community calendars and newsletters, run clubs and tenants unions. These projects are cooked up in living rooms and squeezed into coffee shops – but what if they had a dedicated space, abundant materials, and a community of fellow practitioners to draw from?
GROUP PROJECT is a new hub for community-building that supports local projects through relationships, resources, and skill-sharing. We offer working space for projects, a lending library for gatherings, and partner with locals to host community-building events that inspire, educate, and help folks do cool stuff in New Haven.
Think: flyer-making classes, screenprinting workshops, facilitation skill-shares, networking for gatherers, and abundant materials for your next project whether that's a park clean-up day or creating a zine about landlords in the city. Every month we will host community-building events and regular project co-working/open studio days. Some of our programming will be free and open to the public, while many of our events will be ticketed at $10 and free for GROUP PROJECT members.
Through it all, we hope to help new projects started, support existing projects to last longer + get stronger, and connect schemers and dreamers to meet together and share resources.

Why Projects?
First off, let’s be clear about what we mean by ‘projects’!

You might notice a theme here that projects, in the GROUP PROJECT universe, ideally support New Haven in some meaningful way. To us, local projects are the heatsource of everything that makes New Haven a great place to live. They spark friendships, collaboration, advocacy, information sharing, and so much more.
Right now, there are organizers in New Haven teaching themselves basic fundraising to put on events. Groups honing communication through conflict and making decisions together. Gatherers learning about local real estate and resources to throw great parties. These skills don’t just make our projects possible; they’re also quietly making us more likely to talk with our neighbors, to organize in crisis, and be tapped into what’s going on in our communities.
Stronger communities are built through tons and tons of local projects.
We believe everyone is capable of not only showing up to stuff or enjoying things made by others, but organizing their own thing themselves. No matter where you find yourself on that arc – whether you’re a seasoned get-it-doner or have been dreaming of your own gathering or newsletter for years – we hope you’ll find the camaraderie, validation, and skills you need to do your thing here.
The GROUP PROJECT project people
GROUP PROJECT was founded by Kai Addae and Elise Granata, two friends who met in New Haven in 2021 and bonded instantly through biking, organizing the Radical Adventure Riders, and a shared adoration of theme parties and group facilitation. We’ve been dreaming since then of a space to host gatherings and learn alongside others in New Haven about what it takes to craft durable, delightful group spaces.
